Membership  Our year begins in September and consists of three terms, the Autumn and Winter terms usually consist of twelve weeks (though individual courses may do more or less than this) and some courses also have a summer term Our annual enrolment is during the summer (4 weeks in June and July) and our U3A has a policy that existing members have the right to retain places on courses they have been on the previous year, providing their renewal forms are returned by the deadline given in the Prospectus.  After this date they will not be guaranteed to retain their place. New members should also try and enrol during this period as this gives the best chance of obtaining a place on the courses of choice.  A points system is used to try and ensure that places are allocated as fairly as possible.  If places are not available on all your choices you will be placed on the waiting list for those which are full, places often become available during the year. It is possible to enrol at any time, and new members are always welcome, but the choice after mid-July is more limited.  A list of courses which have places, is available from the Membership Secretary on request. All members are invited to the Monday morning meetings at the Friends’ Meeting House. In the unlikely event that a place cannot be offered on any of your course choices you will be contacted to ask if you would like your cheque returned and your membership application cancelled. To apply for membership please print a copy of the Membership Application Form then complete and return it, along with your cheque and a SAE to the Membership Secretary.   Gift Aid If you are a UK taxpayer then Gift Aid is a simple way to increase the value of your Membership Fee. U3A is a Registered Charity and as such Members’ subscriptions are allowable for tax relief if you have paid UK tax (income or capital) of at least £5 each year. If you are a tax payer please help us by completing the declaration on your enrolment form by ticking the gift aid box If your circumstances change and you no longer pay any tax or if you wish to cancel your declaration, please  simply notify the Treasurer - all such information will be treated in the strictest confidence. You must notify Scarborough U3A if you change your name or address while the Gift Aid Declaration is in force.
